Did you know...

...that breathing air in Mumbai is equivalent to smoking 20 cigarettes a day?

I'm not shocked with this piece of statistics; I did breathe that almost-air for 20 odd years; but when put like that, it makes me worry a great deal for the health of my family back home. Especially my little nephew who would've smoked over hundred-thousand cigarettes before he actually starts smoking!

Isnt it wonder than people are still alive in Mumbai!

Does anyone has any data about smoking related cancers in mumbai population?

I am sure it will show how resilient people residing in Mumbai are against such odds :)

Fighter Jet,
But it really is so unfair to the little kids in Mumbai who're born with this huge health hazard & are totally unaware of it!

That's crazy! It's even crazier for the newborns, becuase they've been breathing it through their mother and they'll breathe it themselves when they come into this world. Yuck!

It worries me too, as I've breathed the very same air for 13 odd years, and *sigh*, my family is breathing it back home as I'm writing this.

i think this is a major conspiracy by the US or China or Pakistan or...take your pick. but the positive part is that mumbai has floods every year to wash away all the dirt....:-)

i think its time we all started smoking. its going to kill you anyway so why not have fun while at it?

Satyajit,
On the other hand, if the air was cleaner, you could smoke 20 cigerettes a day without feeling guilty; and you could just go "oh, its only another day spent breathing"
