31
Last year, I was in Dubai when I celebrated my 30th birthday. It was a turning point of sorts - I had a baby on his way; I had just noticed the first few strands of grey in my hair & I was entering a new decade in my life. It was a bit unnerving.
The 31st, in contrast, is completely -- um, what's the right word for it? -- "un-unnerving". I'm loving the 30s!!! I really am. I can't imagine why I was so apprehensive about it - I feel more confident today than I did back in my early or mid 20s; I feel more secure in my relationships; I have a career that rocks; I have goals that give me freedom from the aimlessness of my 20s; I use my credit cards more freely; I feel more in-control; the experience of motherhood has been life-altering. Perhaps I miss my old waistline on occassions; but that's about it.
Maybe it's life falling into place that makes me feel like this. The past year has been a little Benjamin-Button-like.
