Mumbai today

My last visit to Mumbai was less than a year ago. Yet, the city has changed so much since my last visit. Some random observations:

!!! - The Mumbai airport has spanking new immigration counters where the air conditioning works.

:) - Zenzi Bar in Bandra has free salsa lessons on saturday evenings.

!! - Sachin Tendulkar is no more the king of billboards; M S Dhoni commands more billboard space than Sachin (his face is everywhere & more!)

?? - 'Nach baliye' season 2 is the most eagerly awaited tv show (wonder why it is called a 'celebrity' show when some of the faces are not even remotely recognizable!)

! - There are as many new private Indian airlines as TV channels (latest additions are Go Air, Kingfisher & Spice Jet)

:)) - Then one day the sea-water at Mahim turned sweet (Such bizzare things can happen only in Mumbai!)

I'm sure there have been many more changes, and what I got to see in my two-days stay was only a small slice of it.

Cliche'd as it sounds but Change is the only thing that is constant in Mumbai.
Its amazing that a city that boasts of so much wealth has none to indulge itself in. Things go from bad to worse, the grit of Mumbaikars tested time and again and yet my lovely wife loves the place and I try and get used to it.

yup, there he goes again.
actually, pg and manu would call his one-liners 'biblical'
of course, there was a hint of sarcasm there! ;)

please tell your husband that cliched has no known usage with an apostrophe.

What do you mean by 'sea water turned sweet'?

Didnt you read about it in the papers? People flocked to the beach at Mahim because there were rumours that the sea-water had turned sweet (in the same spirit that Ganesh had started drinking milk two years ago!). Turns out it was low tide combined with heavy rainfall that caused it. Surely qualifies as the most stupid miracle-rumour ever! :)

hey

I didn't know H was so anti-Mumbai...sigh! Such a pleasure to read your nostalgic posts. Quite sadly, my cricket knowledge did not keep pace with my Bollywood khabar. So I had to actually google for MS Dhoni. He doesn't look great...what's the fuss about?

Thanks Y, thats great to know!

And U, where have you been? Dhoni is the rockstar of cricket. Its a punishable offence under the Indian Penal Code to say that you never heard of him!
