Cafe Ceramique

We've got to be the most untalented couple ever...This is what we managed to create in Cafe Ceramique; the ceramique-painting-plus-coffee-n-snacks place on Jumeira Road. H made this jewellery box for me; and I made this pen stand for him. It was great fun being at the cafe and getting our hands dirty in paint :)

What can I say, it wasn't a happy realisation that we don't have enough talent to even make it as amateur ceramique painters; but it was exciting discovering that :)

Aw, come on, don't be so hard on yourself. I've joined wheel pottery classes too..and get a complex in every class:)

I think you both did such a great job on your "his" and "her" gifts, honestly! My neighbor in Dubai used to teach at the Jumairah Arts Centre (atleast that is what I think it was called) and her garage at home was served as a little clay workshop.I would pop in whenever I got the fever to work on clay and spent many a happy hour scultping little statuettes with her. She had a kilm in her backyard too, so it is was all very convenient.

Thanks for sharing these pictures!

Me thinks they look pretty cool. Or maybe I have a pretty bad sense of fine arts :). And just as a side track, it is a wonderful business proposition to start something like this and get people to come up, try their hand at these things and then pay you for the fun they had.

Interesting.

Clickable,
Hey, didn't know that you've been taking pottery classes (reminds me of Demi Moore in Ghost) :) I cant believe you're not good in any department of arts...Write about your pottery classes!

Lotus,
Hahaha, well we started off trying to do something completely different from what we ended up with. But thanks for the compliment :)

Kanishka,
Aww, thank you :)
Well, I think its a super business idea myself. I think they've got a section on franchising on their website, but havent had a chance to go thru it. It would make a lot of sense in Indian metros. Young people would rather hang out at such places than Coffe Days or Mochas. What do you think?

Hey Radha, they are pretty nice. I did not know about the cafe. I had seen something like this in America where you painted pottery and they baked it for you, came concept i guess, talked to a friend about it as a small business idea a while back, didn't know one already existed in Dubai.

Hi DR, thanks :)
Cafe Ceramique has two branches...one on Jumeirah Rd & the other in the Mall of the Emirates. Its pretty awesome; if you're with good friends....a fun way to spend an afternoon.

I also think they've turned out very nice - don't be so hard on yourself! There's also a Cafe Ceramique here in Abu Dhabi (it's only taken me 18mths to find it!) & as soon as I'm fit again, I'll go along & create some havoc!

diyadear said...

n did u make it free hand??

Radha said...

Hi Diya...

Thanks! You're giving me too much credit :)
We only painted it; the cafe provides ceramic pieces in white. We painted them and got them glazed from the cafe itself.
